Trojan Battalion

Military Science also known as Army ROTC is one of the few college electives that can have a lasting effect on your future. Army ROTC has a long tradition of providing the nation’s top business and military leaders. Whether you choose to pursue an officer’s commission in the Army or merely participate in the class, ROTC will help you refine your leadership skills and give you valuable hands-on experience.

Army ROTC classes and labs are about “doing.” In the first two years, you will learn valuable skills like land-navigation and map reading, first aid, and most important, small unit leadership. We don’t lecture, we learn by doing. During the summer, you can volunteer for military schools such as Airborne School, Air Assault School, and the Northern Warfare Course and earn the associated skill badge to wear on your uniform.

Our partnership schools are Saint Paul College in Lawrenceville, VA and Richard Bland College in Petersburg, VA. If you currently attend one these schools you can enroll in military sciences courses and go to class on the campus of Virginia State University. You can also apply for a campus-based scholarship if you are eligible.
